Key Responsibilities


Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, maintains and supports computer communication networks within the RPS and between organizations.  Integrates and manages operational aspects of information security, integrity, performance, scalability and availability for computers, enterprise servers and network operating system platforms.  Provides trouble-shooting support for any IT related technical problems as they arise.

 

(1)      Installs, configures and maintains information and network security including firewalls, web email content filtering, virus protection, intrusion detection and prevention and employs enterprise security through windows group policies, permissions and rights within a Microsoft environment.
(2)      Conducts server and network infrastructure implementations.
(3)      Acts as a Project Leader on specifically assigned projects including network analysis and server system design and installation.
(4)      Evaluates and manages network performance, system availability and capacities, server upgrades and backups.
(5)      Participates in product evaluation and selection activities.
(6)      Performs various database administration functions including installation of database software, creation/modification of database servers, data replication configuration and management, managing DB processes and investigating and resolving common database server faults.
(7)      Installs and maintains network shared folders and printing services and participates in the tracking and reporting of software licenses.
(8)      Applies application and network related upgrades and participates in change management and test procedures.
(9)      Assists in the development of procedures and standards.
(10)    Performs other duties as assigned.

Competencies

(1)      Bachelors Degree in computer science or 2 year Certificate in Computer Science from a recognized University or a 2 year Diploma in a related field from a recognized technical institute with 2-3 years progressively responsible experience in an enterprise computing environment. MCP would be a benefit.
(2)      Knowledge of network, desktop and telecommunication technologies including experience with Windows server operating system, Office, Exchange, back-up software and various other network products and services including firewalls, TCP/IP, VPN, wireless connections and virtualization. 
(3)      Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems.
(4)      Strong customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain user expectations, trust and confidence.
(5)      Clear and effective oral and written communications in both technical and non-technical formats.
(6)      Adaptable to continual change in a dynamic environment.
