Key Responsibilities

 

Under the direction of the Information Technology Services Manager, this working supervisor develops, maintains and supports computer communication networks within the RPS and between organizations.  Integrates and manages operational aspects of information security, integrity, performance, scalability and availability for computers, enterprise servers and network operating system platforms.  Provides senior trouble-shooting support for any IT related technical problems as they arise.

 

(1)     Installs, configures and maintains information and network security including firewalls, web email content filtering, virus protection, intrusion detection and prevention and employs enterprise security through windows group policies, permissions and rights within a Microsoft environment.
(2)     Conducts risk assessments of new server systems and handles server implementations.
(3)     Acts as a Project Leader on assigned projects including network analysis and server system design and installation.
(4)     Supervises, trains and mentors the Infrastructure Support team in the performance of their duties including server installations, backups, hardware and software inventory management.
(5)     Evaluates and manages disk sizes, network performance, system availability, server upgrades and backups.
(6)     Coordinates and participates in product evaluation and selection activities.
(7)     Directs and performs various database administration functions including installation of database software, creation/modification of database servers, replication configuration, managing DB processes and investigating and resolving common database server faults.
(8)     Directs and participates in the installation and maintenance of network shared folders and printing services as well the tracking and reporting of software licenses.
(9)     Coordinates and applies application and network related upgrades and participates in change management and test procedures.
(10)   Coordinates and assists in the development of procedures and standards.
(11)   Performs related duties as required.
 

Competencies


(1)    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a 2 year certificate in Computer Science from a recognized University, or a 2 year Diploma in a related field from a recognized technical institute and 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a large enterprise computing environment.  MCP would be a benefit.
(2)    Ability to demonstrate excellent supervisory, leadership and mentorship skills.
(3)    Expert knowledge of network, desktop and telecommunication technologies including experience with Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems, Office, Exchange, back-up software and various other network products and services including firewalls, TCP/IP, VPN, wireless connections and virtualization.
(4)    Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems.
(5)    Strong customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain user expectations, trust and confidence.
(6)    Clear and effective oral and written communications in both technical and non-technical formats.
(7)    Adaptable to continual change in a dynamic environment
