Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Senior Systems Architect, the System Administrator’s role is to manage and maintain computer information systems to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.  This position is part of the overall team in Information Technology Services whose responsibility is the overall management of technology for the Regina Police Service. 

 

1.    Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-user and department managers.
2.    Manage and maintain the enterprise software portfolio through regular maintenance and upgrade procedure and ensure the integrity and security of enterprise information systems in accordance with business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security and regulatory compliance.
3.    Collaborate in the planning, design, development, testing and deployment of new applications.
4.    Manage accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
5.    Analyze system performance, provide recommendations and implement enhancements to existing systems.
6.    Establish and maintain strong relationships with software vendors.
7.    Support team members in analyzing incidents and problem determination.
8.    Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
9.    Other related duties as required.

Competencies

1.    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from a recognized University with demonstrated experience in a System Administrator role.
2.    Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data modeling.
3.    Experience overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.
4.    Working knowledge of desktop and server operating systems (e.g. UNIX, Mac, Windows, Linux), Virtual server and desktop infrastructure (VMWare, HyperV, VM Essentials, Nutanix, and Storage Area Networks) and MS SQL, MS Office, including familiarity with database structures and design.
5.    Experience in multi-vendor client/server infrastructure.
6.    Familiarity with programming/scripting languages (e.g. C/C++, Perl, PHP, Java, or similar).
7.    Practical knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flowcharts.
8.    Familiarity with GIS/GPS technologies would be considered an asset.
9.    Strong customer service and communication skills, both oral and written in technical and non-technical formats.
